Queens Community House provides individuals and families with the tools to enrich their lives and build healthy, inclusive communities.
Queens Community House's six Older Adult Centers are vibrant spaces designed to foster lifelong learning, discovery, and community. Beyond providing opportunities for socialization and exercise, our centers allow older adults to explore new interests and develop new skills. Kulwant Bains exemplifies this perfectly. Featured in our spotlight several years ago, our Pomonok Older Adult Center became, for her, a space to uncover hidden talents. Kulwant remains an active member, having expanded her activities to include yoga and meditation alongside painting.
"I’ve been coming to the Pomonok Senior Center for 31 years. I came specifically for the art classes. I never did any art before this. I wasn’t sure if I’d be able to do real art, but now I’ve made more than 100 paintings. I kept coming back to the center because I really love this place. Nothing matters – not color, not your nationality. We just have a good time. I don’t know what I’d do without this place; it’s like my family.”
