Forest Hills Garden Blog: Adult ESOL students receive first library cards

Through its research, the Queens Community House in forest Hills found that more than 30 million adults struggle with literacy. A number of factors, such as income level, health, housing, incarceration and a mother’s education level, can create a significant impact of low literacy. In order to bridge these gaps, QCH’s English for Speakers of a Second Language staff has created community partnerships to expand access and services throughout the borough. Two QCH teachers recently took participants to the Forest Hills branch of the Queens Library, where they learned to use computers and received their first library cards.
