COMMUNITY FOOD PROGRAM COORDINATOR

We are seeking a qualified and dynamic Community Food Program Coordinator with experience in grassroots programming related to community sustainability and food justice and access work at our Pomonok Community Center location. In particular the Coordinator will work with the site director to integrate QCH’s mission, vision and values in our food access and justice work; identify opportunities for food access program refinement and enhancement; support and grow participant engagement and leadership; and build a team spirit among current resident leadership. The employee will report to the Pomonok Center Director.

Responsibilities:

  • Implement and oversee Pomonok’s comprehensive food access and justice work which includes:
  1.  A weekly famers market that operates July-November
  2.  A weekly on-site food pantry, and assisting with 1-2 additional local community-led food pantries
  3. On-site community gardening efforts
  4. Youth food justice activities
  5. Community cooking and eating activities (for example: oversight of community chefs providing cooking demonstrations; multi-cultural potluck events)
  • Volunteer Management and Development: work closely with community/resident volunteers to implement all of the above activities and additional community-led events; this may include developing the skills of these volunteers to expand their capacity, understanding of their tasks and Center programs, and community leadership With the Pomonok Center Director, develop and strengthen program and Center-wide advisory, volunteer, and leadership group.
  • Primary liaison with food product vendors for the food pantry and famers market
  • Identify and develop partnerships with internal and external entities to further goals of community health, food access, nutrition, and community strengthening at the Pomonok Community Center
  • Contribute to the continual assessment of community needs and develop ways to address those needs
  • Serve as a key member of the Pomonok Community Center staff team in planning and supporting center-wide activities such as open center nights, family literacy events, health fairs, adult access to exercise, community pot-lucks, and family socials
  • Track participant engagement, milestones, and outcomes within pertinent program areas and assist with reporting this information to funders
  • Other duties and special projects as assigned

 

Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate degree required
  •  Minimum of two (2) years of human service experience required
  •  Community organizing and planning experience required
  • Substantial food access and justice experience in a community based setting required
  • Experience working with volunteers on volunteer led activities
  • Experience working with youth, adults, and families
  • Strong administrative, communication skills, and mediation skills
  • Commitment to the multi-service, settlement house model
  • Have the ability to work nights and weekends as needed

 

Additional Details:

STATUS: Full-Time, Non-Exempt

SALARY: $40,000- $45,500 per annum

This position is available immediately. Queens Community House offers a competitive salary commensurate with experience and a comprehensive benefits package.
