Over 500 Residents Attend Queens Community House's Health Fair in Jackson Heights

On May 6, over 500 Queens residents were in attendance for Queens Community House's Annual Intergenerational Community Health Fair in Jackson Heights. QCH, one of the borough's largest social service organizations, hosted the public event outside its Beacon Community Center at PS 149Q, with activities for children, young adults, parents, and older adults, including a fun bouncy house, a face painting station, live music, food, healthy eating workshops, live yoga & salsa classes, and key resources for all generations.

During the event, individuals and families were able to learn about QCH's programs and services available for the Jackson Heights community. "QCH's services range from early childhood education to after-school programs, teen services to ESOL classes, eviction prevention to immigration, and much more, so it's great to be able to connect our neighbors to programs that can benefit their families and the community," said Oswald Araujo, QCH Director of Beacon Services.

Elected officials in attendance included Assemblymember Jessica González-Rojas, Councilmember Shekar Krishnan, and New York State Senator Jessica Ramos. US Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez's team was also in attendance as a resource table.

"I am so happy to support QCH for the incredible work they do for our neighbors here in Jackson Heights and throughout Queens," said Assemblymember Gonzalez-Rojas.

"Thank you to QCH for hosting this health fair for the community," said Councilmember Krishnan. "The best way to take care of our health is to get our regular checkups, make sure we have access to resources, and stay active, and we did all that today."

New York City agencies and other local organizations were also at the health fair to inform residents about other community resources, including APICHA Community Health Center, Metro Plus, Northwell Health, Queens Public Library, Healthfirst, NYC Commission on Human Rights, NYC Department for the Aging, and more.
