FAMILY SUPPORT SPECIALIST

We are seeking a Family Support Specialist under its contract with NYC Department of Youth and Community Development’s Comprehensive Services for Immigrant Families. The program’s purpose is to ensure that immigrant households gain access to relevant services that will help them prosper and become self-sufficient. Each enrolled family will build self-advocacy skills and gain the knowledge to enable them to address specific challenges and navigate key systems that impact their lives (for example, the education, healthcare, housing, benefits, tax, workplace, and legal and immigration systems).
- Intensive case management support and service coordination will be provided to an annual minimum of 60 households. Case management will seek to address all relevant issues including (but not limited to): housing, immigration status, employment, childcare, education, parenting, elder care, college/post-secondary planning, and health/nutrition/food access.
- In collaboration with Queens Community House programs and Community Partners, provide monthly “know your rights’ workshops, webinars, and convenings on topics and themes relevant to household needs and interests.
- Introduce households to the range of Queens Community House’s existing programs/services, and offerings including: youth employment, teen center, food pantry, college/career advisement, adult literacy, food stamp enrollment, after school, senior centers and family daycare services.
- Provide coordinated-events that build household connection to the Queens Community House and facilitate volunteerism such family and community events, Queens Power, community pot-lucks, town halls.
- Develop relationships with community partners who provide mental health, special needs, and other support services for families.
- Track and document all inputs, outputs, milestones and outcomes related to program in accordance with contract and QCH and supervisor’s requirements.
- Plan and implement outreach to target communities, including social media platforms.
- B.A. or Masters degree in social work, and at least two years experience with case work.
- Strong cultural competency, Interest in and familiarity with the Latino community and issues affecting immigrant Latinos. Fluency in the Spanish language.
- Commitment to service as a personal value.
- Excellent bilingual English/Spanish written and oral communication skills.
- Can maintain a professional demeanor and attitude with all stakeholders.
- Will participate in and actively contribute to cross-department meetings to support agency
- wide assessment, planning, and interventions in support of our families and neighbors.
- Possesses good judgment and strong assessment skills.
- Can work independently and remotely while maintaining appropriate communication with supervisor.
- Familiarity and comfort with variety of data collection platforms.
- Familiarity with online webinar and e-meeting platforms (Zoom) a plus.
- Strong competency in MS Word and Excel, and social media platforms.

Status: Full-Time, Non-Exempt
Salary: $42K - $54k per annum; commensurate with education and experience Schedule: 35 hours per week
