Summer Day Camp at M.S. 217
Queens Community House launched a brand new summer camp at M.S. 217 in Jamaica in the summer of 2008. This FREE program operates five days a week from 8AM to 6PM throughout July and August.
Campers are divided into age-appropriate groupings, with a licensed teacher and 2 counselors to lead them in creative, educational, artistic, and athletic activities which include: Math Games, Reading, Creative Writing, Music, Sports, Health and Theater. (Activities fluctuate based on age.) One unique opportunity for many campers is a gardening initiative, in which the older campers create beauty by planting and tending greenery around the school’s perimeter.
The program aims to keep children learning throughout their summer vacations in an environment that cultivates self esteem-building. Campers are encouraged to explore their passions and sharpen their abilities through fun and distinctive programming.
On Fridays, campers take excursions to visit exciting attractions such as Alley Pond Park, the Brooklyn Museum, Rockefeller Center and more. Throughout the summer, there are special events such as Crazy Hair Day, Twin Day, Decades Day, and a Talent Show.
The funding for this program is generously provided by NYC DYCD OST
